Country's Largest Privately Owned Employment Service Opens in Fairfield

AppleOne, A $350 million company that is the largest privately owned employment service in the country, is now in Fairfield. It has doubled its number of offices and moved into 20 states in the last two years, and now boasts l60 offices in the United States and Canada. The Fairfield office, which opened October 20 last year, was the first in the Midwest. Another opened in Iowa City on December l7.

"Even though Fairfield has a population of only about l2,000, it is the seat of Jefferson County and people from all over come here to do business," says Dawna L. Burnett, AppleOne Area Manager. "It is the regional hub in the Midwest. I love it here. Everyone is so friendly. People wave that don't even know you."

It was Burnett's decision to bring the company to Fairfield, where several Fortune 500 companies are headquartered. "We plan to open 28 more offices in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky," she says.

Founded by Bernard Howroyd in l964, AppleOne developed a business philosophy that guaranteed success. Howroyd believes that his business should not prosper until those he serves prosper. This idea evolved into a commitment to build "client-for-life" relationships and sparked the wildfire expansion the company is now experiencing. Sixty percent of all new clients are referrals from another client. Howroyd plans to continue the expansion until there are offices in every state. "As long as there is even one vacant position in some company somewhere, there will be a need for AppleOne," he says. "We are staffing experts who go the extra mile to earn our clients, one deed at a time."

Each applicant is counseled for one-and-a-half hours by a professional Account Executive to find out their likes and dislikes--what they enjoyed in their last job and what they didn't. They are evaluated and tested by the exclusive ApplLearn program, a self-paced testing and tutorial PC system that evaluates and trains applicants on the business software packages companies want. Once a career profile is developed using the results of the evaluations and the information gathered through the screening process, they focus on each candidate's tangible and intangible qualities, with the goal of placing that person in an environment where they will excel. By taking the time to find superior people and offering good service, they can give businesses the best candidates for their jobs. "There are plenty of jobs for plenty of people here in Fairfield," says Dawna Burnett. "We build confidence and self-esteem, and, best of all, the service is free for candidates."
